Guide · Structured data
Structured data is a JSON-LD block that states explicitly what a page contains: a company, a product, an article, questions with their answers. There is no special schema for AI: the same schema.org types used for SEO apply, filled in with data that matches the visible text.
Schema alone does not get a page cited, but it removes ambiguity: who the brand is, what the product is, what it costs, who wrote the article and when. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode need no extra markup, and Bing has said structured data helps its models understand content. The types that matter are Organization, Product, Article, FAQPage, LocalBusiness and BreadcrumbList.
Six types cover almost every site. Each answers a question an engine asks about the page.

Name, brand, price, availability, reviews: the data that comparison and shopping answers reuse.
Headline, author, publication and update dates. It says who stands behind the content and how recent it is.
Explicit questions and answers. Google shows the rich result to few sites, but the markup still describes the structure of the page.
Address, opening hours, service area. It matters for questions like "best plumber in Chicago".
Where the page sits in the site. It helps place it within a topic.
Wrong markup is worse than none: it tells the engine something the page contradicts.
A price or rating in the markup that does not appear on the page goes against Google's guidelines and costs the source trust.
Ratings must come from real customers. Google does not show stars for reviews a business publishes about itself.
Markup describes the page, it does not replace it. If the answer is not written in the text, the engine has nothing to cite.
Marking a service page as Product, or a page without questions as FAQPage, produces errors and brings nothing.
Four checks, from a single block to the effect on answers.
Tells you whether the markup is valid and which rich results it can produce.
Checks every type, including the ones Google does not use for rich results.
The reports in the Enhancements section show errors across the whole site, not only on the page you tested.
Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity for the price, location or features of your product and check whether they report the right data, and from which page.
